The Mosque Guidance and Development Lagos Initiative (MGDLI) has announced a three-day anniversary programme aimed at promoting good governance, proper documentation, hygiene, health and safety in mosques across Lagos State.

The programme, scheduled for October 30 to November 1, 2026, will take place at the Lagos State Old Secretariat Mosque Hall (Ayinke Hall), Shamsi Adisa Thomas Central Mosque, Oba Akinjobi Way, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.

With the theme, “Building Better Mosques: Documentation, Good Governance and Hygienic Environment,” the anniversary will feature a keynote lecture, medical outreach, first-aid training, environmental hygiene sessions and a panel discussion.

According to the organisers, the initiative seeks to equip Imams, mosque committees and administrators with practical knowledge to improve accountability, maintain proper institutional records, promote clean worship environments and strengthen the welfare of worshippers.

The first day, Friday, October 30, will feature a special Jumu'ah service from 1pm to 2pm, with prayers for MGDLI, mosques and the Muslim Ummah. The Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria (IMAN) will also conduct a medical outreach from 2pm to 4pm, offering general health checks, blood pressure and blood sugar screenings, counselling and referrals where necessary.

Activities on Saturday, October 31, will focus on first aid and environmental hygiene. Hajia Owolarafe Haolat, founder of Haulat Pola Foundation and a mosque sanitation advocate at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, will lead a practical session on mosque cleaning, toilet sanitation and hygiene.

The organisation will also distribute 100 first-aid kits to mosques between 11am and 1pm, alongside sensitisation on their proper use and the importance of emergency preparedness.

On Sunday, November 1, Prof. Saheed Olurotimi Timehin of Lagos State University (LASU), an Islamic scholar and Da'wah expert, will deliver the keynote lecture on “Mosque Documentation and Hygiene: The Foundation for Sustainable Islamic Development.”

Dr. Muiz Banire, SAN, will chair the occasion, while the panel discussion will feature Hon. AbdulHakeem AbdulLateef, Alhaji Oladimeji Animashaun, Alhaji Adegbenga Ojikutu and Alhaji Taiwo Olapade, alongside other experts.

A faith-based hospitality and halal networking session, to be anchored by Hajia Maryam Mobolanje Sanni-Awe, founder of Glazing Memoirs, will follow the discussions.

MGDLI said the programme is expected to strengthen mosque administration, encourage proper record-keeping, improve hygiene standards and increase health awareness and emergency preparedness among Muslim communities.

The organisation also aims to foster collaboration among Imams, mosque administrators, Islamic organisations, professionals and other stakeholders working towards community development.

MGDLI is a non-governmental organisation committed to effective mosque administration, transparency, capacity building and infrastructure maintenance. It promotes mosque development through training, seminars, workshops and collaboration with government and other stakeholders.

The initiative has invited Imams, mosque administrators, Islamic organisations, Muslim scholars, community leaders and the general public to participate in the anniversary programme. Institutions, philanthropists and other stakeholders have also been encouraged to support the initiative.

The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to its vision of “Better Mosques, Stronger Communities, A Brighter Tomorrow.”

The announcement was jointly signed by MGDLI Chairman, Alhaji Musoddiq Adele Sanni, Esq.; Secretary, Alhaji AbdulMumuni Bello; Anniversary Planning Committee Chairman, Alhaji Hakeem Bello; and committee secretary, Hajia Idayat Aloba, Esq.
