The Federal Government has congratulated Samson Adamu following his confirmation as the substantive General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The National Sports Commission (NSC), in a statement, described Adamu’s appointment as a recognition of his experience, dedication and contributions to African football administration.

NSC Chairman, Shehu Dikko, praised the Nigerian administrator’s rise through the ranks at CAF, where he previously served as Director of Competitions, Director of Tournaments and Events, and Acting General Secretary.

Dikko said Adamu’s confirmation reflected the experience and competence he had demonstrated within the continental football governing body.

“Samson’s confirmation recognises the experience he has built within CAF. We congratulate him and wish him every success,” he said.

He added that the appointment was a significant achievement for Nigeria and demonstrated the capacity of the country’s sports administrators to occupy influential positions in continental and international sports organisations.

According to Dikko, Adamu’s elevation would also inspire more Nigerians to pursue careers in sports administration while strengthening the country’s sports diplomacy and international relationships.

The NSC chairman further highlighted Nigeria’s preparations to host the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly in Abuja on November 21, 2026, as well as the CAF Awards scheduled for Lagos on December 10.

He noted that hosting the two major events underscored the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening its relationship with CAF and promoting the commercial potential of sports.

Dikko said the events would create opportunities for businesses in hospitality, tourism, transportation and the media sector.

“The Federal Government remains committed to working with CAF to advance football and develop its commercial value,” he stated.

He also encouraged young Nigerians interested in sports administration to draw inspiration from Adamu’s career progression, stressing the importance of experience, competence and integrity.

The commission reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with CAF, the Nigeria Football Federation and other stakeholders to improve football administration and unlock further economic opportunities in the sport.
