The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has recovered additional components from its ATR 42-500 aircraft that crashed in Igbokoda, Ondo State, as search and recovery operations continue at the site.

The Air Force disclosed this in a statement posted on its official X handle on Wednesday, noting that specialist divers from the Nigerian Navy and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) were conducting underwater recovery operations alongside its recovery team.

According to the statement, the operation involves hydrographic surveys, satellite-based search-and-rescue imagery, mud excavation and the pumping of excess water to gain access to areas of interest.

The NAF said personnel were working round the clock to locate and retrieve relevant materials for documentation and preservation to support the ongoing investigation.

“Additional aircraft components have been recovered as efforts continue to locate and retrieve relevant materials for documentation and preservation in support of the ongoing investigation,” the statement said.

The latest recovery effort comes as investigators continue to gather evidence to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The Air Force added that the collaboration among the NAF, Nigerian Navy and NSIB remained central to retrieving materials from underwater and other difficult-to-access areas of the crash site.
