Nigerian Army troops have destroyed Lakurawa terrorist camps in Waria Forest, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, killing several fighters and recovering weapons and five motorcycles.

The operation was carried out on Thursday by troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, during a clearance mission targeting suspected terrorist hideouts.

In a statement shared on X, the task force’s Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, said troops from Sector 2 advanced through terrorist enclaves around Alela, Bilange and Kandam villages before reaching Waria Forest, where they engaged the fighters.

“During the firefight, troops dominated the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their positions and flee deeper into the forest,” the statement said.

The troops pursued the fleeing fighters, killing several of them before destroying the camps and other support structures discovered in the area.

The military also recovered weapons and five motorcycles during the operation.

However, the task force did not disclose the exact number of fighters killed or provide details of the weapons recovered.

It said clearance operations would continue to restrict the group’s movement, dismantle terrorist hideouts and improve security in surrounding communities.

The command commended the troops for their efforts and urged residents to report suspicious movements and activities to security agencies, stressing that timely and credible information would support ongoing operations and strengthen security across the region.
