Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have overrun a suspected Lakurawa terrorist enclave in Waria Forest, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, during a clearance operation.

The operation, conducted on October 15, 2026, resulted in the neutralisation of several terrorists and the recovery of weapons and five motorcycles.

Troops of Sector 2 advanced through identified terrorist positions around Alela, Bilange and Kandam villages towards Waria Forest before making contact with the fighters.

A firefight ensued, but the troops reportedly overwhelmed the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their positions and retreat further into the forest

The troops pursued the fleeing terrorists and neutralised some of them before conducting further searches of the area. The operation also led to the destruction of terrorist camps and associated structures, while weapons and five motorcycles were recovered.

Security forces have maintained a strong presence in the area as clearance and patrol operations continue to prevent the terrorists from re-establishing their presence and to improve security in surrounding communities.

The Theatre Command said the operation demonstrates the military’s continued efforts to dismantle terrorist hideouts, deny armed groups safe havens and restore lasting peace across the Joint Operations Area.

It commended the troops for their courage and sustained efforts, while urging residents to provide security agencies with timely and credible information on suspicious movements and activities within their communities.
